Work through these in order. Most people find a route by step 3.
- Check for a $35 program. Insulin and many inhalers have one. See the insulin and inhaler guides.
- Apply to the drugmaker's free drug program. Brand drugs only. Search the Medicine Assistance Tool, then ask your doctor's office to sign the form.
- Compare cash prices. Check the maker's own site, TrumpRx.gov, Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs, and a free discount card. For generics, one of these is usually cheapest.
- Find a community health center. They charge by income and can help with both care and medication. Search by ZIP code.
- Check if you now qualify for coverage. A job loss or income change can make you eligible for Medicaid or a marketplace plan at HealthCare.gov.
What to gather before you apply
- Your prescription, or your doctor's contact details
- Proof of income: last year's tax return or recent pay stubs
- Photo ID and proof of U.S. residency
- A letter showing you have no coverage, if the program asks
